City to decide on 4th of July fireworks contract tonight

The city’s three-year contract with Melrose Pyrotechnics has expired. Mayor Andy Ezard says City Council will make a decision on a new contract tonight.
The city has used Melrose Pyrotechnics, a nation-wide company, for about 20 years for its Fourth of July Fireworks. The company is based out of Kingsbury, Indiana.
Central State Fireworks is based in Athens and puts on shows throughout the Midwest including Jerseyville and Alton.
The city spends $11,500 on its Fourth of July fireworks show each year.
Tonight’s workshop session and meeting is preceded by a meeting of the Parks and Lakes Committee at 5:45 in the Mayor’s Conference Room.
The workshop session will happen at 6:30 in the Commission Room of the Municipal Building.
