Illinois State Police say the accident happened on Route 78 about a mile north of Chandlerville at around 3:30. Troopers say 25-year-old Nathan Adkins was traveling northbound in a Ford Contour when it crossed the center line and collided with a Ford F-250 pickup truck traveling southbound. Adkins was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

State police say the driver of the pickup truck, 30-year-old Jared Richard of Chandlerville, was not injured. Two passengers in the pickup truck, 36-year-old Shawn Shaner of Chandlerville and 46-year-old Phillip Chadwick of Ashland, also avoided injury.

Troopers say Adkins was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred. They say the driver and two passengers in the pickup truck were wearing seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation by an Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Officer.
