Crimestoppers offering reward for fake cop info
Crimestoppers of Morgan and Scott counties are questing information to assist area law enforcement in the location of the perpetrator. Half-a-dozen incidents have been reported in Morgan, Sangamon, and Macoupin Counties over the last several weeks.
The first reports were on Old Jacksonville Road east of Berlin, then on Route 104 near Rees and Waverly. On Tuesday, a 21-year-old woman reported being stopped by a man near Shipman on Route 16.
In each case, some form of flashing light- either white, red, or red and blue- has been used. In the Macoupin County case, the alleged impostor wore a shirt and hat with the world “police” on it. As was the case with the Sangamon County incidents, he was described as a tall white man with a Southern accent.
The targets in each case have been girls or young women. In the Morgan County incidents, the fake cop ended the pursuit before any pullover occurred.
A cash reward of up to $1,000 will be paid for information leading to an arrest.
