A death confirmed at Illinois School for the Deaf

UPDATE (as of 4:15) – A death was confirmed at the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville. Illinois State Police are still investigating a student’s death that took place earlier this morning. According to Morgan County Coroner Jeff Lair, the 17-year old was found inside the school at 7:05 a.m. No foul play is suspected.

UPDATE (as of 3:38pm) – The death is being investigated by Illinois State Police. Deputy Director of Communications Patrick Laughlin released a statement saying:

We are sad to announce the death of a student at the Illinois School for the Deaf
and an investigation is underway. Our thoughts are with the student's family and
friends during this difficult time and we ask that you respect their privacy. 
Additional counselors are on school grounds to provide support to staff and
students.

A death is being confirmed at the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville. While very little information is available at this time, WLDS/WEAI News was able to reach out to the Superintendent’s Office at ISD and school officials confirmed that there had been a death. Our inquiries were then directed to Deputy Director of Communications Patrick Laughlin, who we also reached out to. After getting into contact with Laughlin, he requested that we provide him with a list of questions via email. Those questions have been sent, and we’re currently waiting to hear back from Laughlin for an interview. The identity of the deceased, the cause of death, and myriad other details surrounding the incident remain unknown at this time. WLDS/WEAI News hopes to provide any additional information regarding this incident if and when it becomes available.
