The Jacksonville Police Department is investigating a report of an armed robbery in a trailer park on the city’s east side last night.

The incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. According to reports, a white male subject wearing a dark, colored, hooded sweatshirt approached a woman who was apparently attempting to retrieve mail from mailboxes in the 1000 block of East Morton, displayed a handgun and demanded money.

The victim apparently didn’t have any money, and the suspect reportedly ran from the area northbound. Nobody was injured during the incident, and police say no property was taken from the victim.

The JPD is also investigating a report of shots fired in the 500 block of East Chambers. This happened just a half-mile north of the armed robbery attempt about fifteen minutes later. Witnesses reported hearing five gunshots in the area of East Chambers and Goltra, across the street from MacMurray College.

Authorities found five shell casings from a handgun in the area. There were no reports of injuries and no signs of damage at the scene.

Police can’t say if the two incidents are connected.
