A Meredosia man was arrested after apparently leaving an infant alone in a barricaded house.
Twenty-four-year-old Cory Allen was booked at the Morgan County Jail for endangering the life or health of a child this morning at around 8:45.
Meredosia Police Chief Mike Beard says Allen and his girlfriend were being allowed to take up residency at a house in the 200 block of Orange Street in Meredosia with their infant son, who is between one and two years old.
Beard says the homeowners, who had been in Florida, came home early because of issues with contacting Allen. When they arrived, they apparently found the front door barricaded with a chair against the door knob and other heavy equipment, and the back door barricaded to a lesser extent.
Inside, they found the infant child in a crib. The homeowners called EMS as a precautionary measure at around 5:30 a.m. this morning. The infant was not harmed. Beard says Allen had gone to take his girlfriend to Cargill for an upcoming shift. He says they had been given keys to the house.
Beard says the Department of Children and Family Services took the infant into custody and placed him with Allen’s grandmother.
The incident is still under investigation. Allen has been released on bond.
Updated at 4 p.m. Allen no longer in custody.
