A six-year-old boy is recovering after being bitten by a dog Tuesday night.
Jacksonville Police say the incident happened at about 7:00 at the residence of Rebekah Hoots of the 400 block of South Diamond. Police say the dog, a black Labrador retriever, is owned by Hoots.
Officers say the dog bit the child in the face and neck area producing a large gash under the boy’s right eye.
Police say the boys’ mother and several other children were at the residence when the incident occurred.
The boy was taken to Passavant Area Hospital before being taken to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Hospital officials say he’s been treated and released.
Police say Morgan County Animal Control took possession of the dog for a mandatory 10-day observation period.
