A Carrollton man accused of stealing upwards of $10,000 from a local charity is scheduled to make for a preliminary hearing in Greene County court today.

Back on December 20th, 42-year old Bradley Cooper turned himself in to Greene County authorities after a warrant was issued for alleged theft and forgery. Cooper is accused of stealing more than $10,000 but less than $100,000 from a small, Greene County-based charity, the Chloe Foundation, which works to assist families with sick children.

According to Greene County authorities, Cooper was the treasurer of the Chloe Foundation, which was founded by Richard and Yvonne Harp in honor of Chloe Murphy, their granddaughter who passed away in 2010. The Harps were the first to notify the Greene County Sheriff’s Department of the suspiciously large amounts of money missing from the Chloe Foundation account.

At the time of Cooper’s arrest, Greene County Sheriff Rob McMillen estimated that Cooper had allegedly taken between $60 to $70-thousand dollars from the Greene County-based charity. According to police reports, the alleged thefts and forgeries took place over the course of five to six years, making for tedious work when it came to investigating the alleged crime.

Shortly after being booked into the Greene County jail, Cooper posted his one thousand dollar bond. At Cooper’s initial court appearance, Cooper himself, along with his Defense Attorney Carrie Magerl and Greene County State’s Attorney Caleb Briscoe were present. At that first appearance, Judge James Day set Cooper’s preliminary hearing for today at 1:15 p.m. at the Greene County courthouse in Carrollton.
