Jacksonville Police say a vehicle fire this morning on the city’s east side is a case of arson.
The Jacksonville Fire Department responded to the blaze at 914 East Lafayette at 6:15 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found the car fully engulfed in flames, with heavy fire coming from the rear passenger area. Reports state the fire started in the back seat.
Jacksonville Police investigator Rodney Cox says the fire department deemed the blaze suspicious.
No one was in the car. The vehicle owner is listed as Molly McEver of Roodhouse. Cox says police haven’t yet spoken with her.
The vehicle was apparently parked next to a condemned home that McEver had lived in previously. It had since been rented out to someone else.
Police have no suspects at this point, and they continue to investigate.
Fire crews were on scene for about a half hour this morning.
