The local United Way branch is holding a fundraising effort throughout the area later this week.

Prairieland United Way’s community-wide project known as “Citywide Jeans Day” on Thursday in an effort to help the organization reach its fundraising goal of $520,000.

The way it works it that employees across the area will get to wear jeans to work in exchange for a $5 donation to the United Way Campaign. As many as 15 area businesses have already agreed to participate, including three school districts in Bluffs, Winchester and Jacksonville, as well as both Our Saviours and Routt, and even Illinois College. Six area banks are also participating in the First National Bank of Winchester, Jacksonville Savings Bank, the Farmers State Bank & Trust Company, US Bank, First National Bank of Arenzville, and Town & Country Bank.

Prairieland United Way’s service area covers the four counties of Morgan, Scott, Cass and Greene, and all businesses within this area are invited to participate.

Money raised by the Citywide Jeans Day will go towards Prairieland United Way’s fundraising goal, which then uses those funds to provide services such as food, shelter, medicine, transportation, emergency services and after school care to approximately 60,000 people a year.

The Prairieland United Way’s Citywide Jeans Day will take place this Thursday, September 21st. For businesses who would like to display a flyer explaining why your employees are joining in the United Way fundraising effort, contact Prairieland United Way at 217-245-4557.
