District 117 to hold presentations on defining school boundaries

A major topic at last week’s School District 117 meeting dealt with establishing clearly defined elementary school boundaries.

With the closing of Franklin Elementary School in 2012, those living within the Franklin boundary have been without a neighborhood school. Also, as 6th graders begin the their transition to Jacksonville Middle School in the fall of 2018, the district seeks to create defined boundaries for the entire community.

Superintendent Steve Ptacek will hold a series of presentations regarding school boundaries starting on December 6th at Lincoln Elementary. Other presentations are scheduled for December 7th at Washington, December 12th at North Elementary, December 13th at Eisenhower and December 14th at South Jacksonville Elementary.

All presentations will begin at 6:30 p.m. Each presentation will feature the same information, though they will focus on the individual school at each location.

Since creating new boundaries in one area will impact other boundaries within the district, everyone in the community is encouraged to attend.
