The Meredosia man accused of causing a severe injury to a nine-month-old girl last month pleaded not guilty to the crime this morning in Morgan County Court.
Twenty-seven-year-old Darin Morrell is charged with aggravated battery of a child. The Class X felony carries a possible penalty of 6 to 30 years in prison with no possibility for probation or court supervision if convicted. Morrell entered the not guilty plea after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing.
Deputies were called to a home in the Shady Acres Mobile Home Park on November 17th to assist Meredosia EMS after the infant suffered unexplained injury to the back of her head.
The girl spent nearly a month in the hospital.
Morrell remains in custody at the Morgan County Jail.
He’s represented by public defender Elliot Turpin.
