Drop off unused prescription drugs at Jacksonville Police Department

The Jacksonville Police Department is offering local residents a chance to help prevent prescription drug abuse this weekend.

For the twelfth time in six years, Jacksonville Police are accepting expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs from anyone in the community.

Prescription drug abuse is a major public health issue in Jacksonville and the rest of the country. This initiative is an attempt to address the health and safety of the community.

Studies have shown that the majority of abused prescription drugs are taken from family, friends and home medicine cabinets. Other disposal methods, such as throwing them in the trash or flushing them down the toilet, can cause potential health and safety concerns.

To safely dispose of these potentially dangerous pills, the public can drop them off at the Jacksonville Police Department on Saturday, October 22nd, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.
