Litigation has been filed in local court against the BNSF Railroad by a former employee for injuries sustained on the job.

According to a lawsuit filed Friday in Morgan County Court, Martin Arenz of Bushnell was injured on January 31st of last year while attempting to get out of a railroad truck in Bushnell.

The suit, which only represents one side of the case, states BNSF failed to provide safe and suitable tools and equipment for Arenz to perform assigned tasks. The suit indicates he worked in the track department.

The litigation claims Arenz suffered severe and permanent injuries to his foot, shoulder and body, lost money and earnings, and incurred medical expenses as a result of the incident.

The two-count suit indicates Arenz worked for BNSF from 1975 to 2013 and says he was injured during his time as a railroad employee when he was subjected to numerous, repetitive traumas while repairing tracks, including while he worked in Morgan County.

The lawsuit is seeking in excess of $50,000.

Arenz is represented by Pratt and Tobin of East Alton.
