A tract of land in Cass County is being sold today for the heirs of a St. Louis Cardinals legend.
The property is being auctioned off for the heirs of the late Marty Marion, according to Sullivan Auctioneers. “Mr. Shortstop”, as he was called, played for St. Louis from 1940 to 1953, participating in four World Series and winning three.
Marion was the National League MVP in 1944 and went on to be the general manager of the Chicago White Sox. He recently died at the age of 94.
The property is located west of the Jim Edgar Panther Creek area, about two miles south of Chandlerville. It includes a 25-acre lake with a lakeside home.
The auction will be at St. Luke Banquet Hall in Virginia at 4 p.m.
