The half-brother of Avery Berry, the Jacksonville man found guilty in July for the murder of Marcus Jackson, is behind bars this morning.

Jacksonville Police arrested 24-year-old Shakil Berry last night at around 11 p.m. for criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct. Lieutenant Chris Johnson tells WLDS-WEAI News the arrest stems from an incident over the weekend, in which Berry went to an ex-girlfriend’s apartment in the 17-hundred block of West Morton.

Johnson says Berry kicked, and eventually, broke the door, which disturbed and alarmed the family.

This isn’t Shakil Berry’s first encounter with law enforcement.

Aside from his involvement in the “skirmish” that lead to the death of Marcus Jackson, Berry was arrested in April of 2015 in connection to a fight at a Jacksonville gas station.

Reports claim Berry allegedly punched someone in the head with brass knuckles. Berry was booked for aggravated battery and unlawful possession of a weapon.
