Roodhouse Mayor Tom Martin goes over the contents of a 50-year-old time capsule.

A great crowd was on hand for the 150th birthday party for the City of Roodhouse last night.

The event was originally scheduled for downtown, but was moved to Garner’s Banquet Hall because of inclement weather.

It came several months ahead of the official Sesquicentennial Celebration scheduled for early August in Roodhouse, and exactly 150 years after Roodhouse was founded. Last night’s festivities included the crowning of Miss Roodhouse and the opening of a time capsule from 1966.

Dick Roodhouse is the president of the Sesquicentennial Committee. His great-grandfather founded the city.

“Can’t say enough about all the help we’ve had. Great help. They asked me a year ago last September if I’d be the chairman and go out and get me an executive committee- and I did, handpicked- they’ve been wonderful. Every one of them is a really good worker, and doing a wonderful job,” says Roodhouse. “We’re just really working hard at it to make this event a success.”

The Roodhouse Sesquicentennial will be held from August 4th to the 7th.
