The public will have another chance to speak its mind on the FutureGen project later this month.
The Illinois Commerce Commission is hosting a public hearing March 27th at 7 p.m. to hear comments on FutureGen Alliance’s plans for transporting and sequestering carbon dioxide from the FutureGen 2.0 clean-coal facility near Meredosia.
The meeting will be in the Jacksonville City Council chambers at 200 West Douglas.
FutureGen Alliance filed its petition outlining the method of transportation and sequestration February 28th. The ICC is accepting comments through the Illinois Commerce Commission website as well as at the public hearing.
You can review the petition by clicking here. You can leave public comment by clicking here, calling 1-800-524-0795, or by writing the Clerk of the Commission, Illinois Commerce Commission, 527 E. Capitol Ave., Springfield, IL 62701.
The project will refit the former Ameren coal-fired power plant in Meredosia with technology that would capture carbon dioxide from coal. A 12-inch wide, linking pipeline from the clean-coal facility in Meredosia will transfer liquid carbon dioxide to a permanent, underground storage site nearly a mile deep located near Route 123 and Beilschmidt Road.
