Illinois College is forming a new partnership for students with St. John’s College of Nursing in Springfield.
The new program, announced at the nursing college yesterday, gives students the chance to earn a Bachelor of Art in Biology from IC and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at St. John’s.
St. John’s Nursing College Chancellor Dr. Brenda Jeffers says the format of the program gives students opportunities to learn on both campuses.
“The 3:2 arrangement that provides students with the opportunity to attend Illinois College for three years in the biology major then transfer to St. John’s College in the nursing program and earn two baccalaureate degrees within five years,” says Jeffers.
It usually takes six years to earn both degrees at the separate schools. At least two IC students who have met requirements will be admitted annually.
Outgoing Illinois College Provost Elizabeth Tobin added in a statement,
“We are thrilled to add St. John’s College of Nursing to the list of schools with which we have admission agreements. The increase in aging baby-boomers is growing the need for nurses, and this agreement opens this important profession to our students. We are confident that they will thrive in this superior program located in one of the most advanced medical districts in Illinois.”
