Twenty-four-year-old Luke Ater of the 300 block of North East was booked at the Morgan County Jail at 12:15 this afternoon on charges of impersonating a police officer after city police investigators arrested him.

According to a press release, the Jacksonville Police Department received three complaints on July 10th of received phone calls from a man claiming to be an investigator who apparently instructed the person on the line to report to the police department.

He allegedly told them failure to do so would result in a warrant being issued for their arrest. The police department brought Ater in for questioning and subsequently arrested him after determining the calls were not made from a real investigator.

Jacksonville Police Chief Tony Grootens says this appears to be an isolated incident.

Ater remains in custody.
