A Jacksonville man involved in a serious fight in 2015 changed his plea to “guilty” in Morgan County Court on Tuesday.
Twenty-four-year-old Shakil Berry waived his rights to a jury trial and entered the guilty plea to the charge of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
According to the Jacksonville Police Department, Berry is alleged to have punched someone in the head with a set of brass knuckles, resulting in that person receiving treatment at Passavant Area Hospital.
A pair of 2016 charges against Berry, resisting a peace officer and criminal damage to property, would be dismissed as part of the plea deal.
The case was referred to probation for a pre-sentence investigation and is continued to November 29th at 10:30 a.m.
Shakil Berry is the half-brother of Avery Berry, the man sentenced to 50-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections last week for the 2014 murder of Marcus Jackson.
