An Ashland man is behind bars for a meth-related charge after Jacksonville Police responded to a disturbance this morning.
In addition to possession of methamphetamine, 23-year-old Matthew Beck was booked at the Morgan County jail at around 7:30 am for obstructing justice, theft, resisting a peace officer and an out of county warrant for obstructing identification.
Jacksonville Police Lieutenant Chris Johnson describes the scene when officers arrived in the 500 block of South Clay.
“The original call was a disturbance. As a result, the officers arrived in the area, found several subjects in who are believed to be involved in that incident. One of those subjects had given a false name. Further investigation showed that that person has a valid Sangamon County warrant. When the officers went to place that individual under arrest, he began to pull away from them. As a result of the subject being placed in handcuffs and a subsequent search of the individual, a substance was found in one of his pockets believed to be methamphetamine,” Johnson explains.
Beck remains in custody.
