This marks the fifth year anniversary for Jacksonville’s Dancing with the Stars competition and Chairman Linda Van Aiken says the event has seen an overwhelming amount of support from the public with high attendance for the show each year.

Van Aiken, a guest this week on WLDS’ “What’s On Your Mind?” program, talked about the three categories that the local dancers will be competing in.

“We have the ladies and they are being instructed by Julio Valenzuala who comes to us from Burbank, California,” says Van Aiken.

“We also have a couples category and our third category is comprised of gentlemen. They will be dancing with partners from the Saras Studio of Dance.”

Hosted by WLDS/WEAI general manager Gary Scott, the event will also feature three high profile judges.

“We’re fortunate to have Dr. Barbara Farley who is the new Illinois College President,” says Van Aiken.

“We also have State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer who is judging for the second year and former representative Jim Watson, who is the Executive Director of Illinois Petroleum Council. So we have quite a lineup.”

A winner will be determined from each category with a dance off to conclude the evening’s event.

The event is put on by the Jacksonville Pilot Club, with all proceeds going towards the preservation of the Jacksonville Bowl project.

The event starts at 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Catering, 110 N East and will feature hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a 50/50 drawing.
