Jacksonville’s latest dog park nearing completion

A little over a year ago, Jacksonville was the big winner in the Petsafe “Bark For Your Park” online voting competition, netting $100,000 towards a new dog park.

“Bark For Your Park” Chairman Paul Lonergan says the park should be open to the public in a few weeks, thanks to months of planning, fundraising and hard work from the community.

“Drove by there this morning to see how things were going and you can see the fencing is taking shape. The parking lots are going in and we have benches and picnic tables the organization is going to pick up this week. As we fund raise for things, we will start providing more toys, water and things for dogs and people to enjoy it more.”

Lonergan says there has only been one problem in the construction process, but that has been taken care of.

“There was a tree they wanted removed, but after looking at the tree we realized it was a good tree. There was an adjustment there so that slowed us down a few days.”

The park is located off Vandalia on the shores of Mauvaisterre Lake.
