A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for trafficking marijuana.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jevon Walton was sentenced in Morgan County Court on Tuesday to nine years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the manufacture or delivery of between 500 and 2,000 grams of cannabis.

Day-for-day credit is to apply with Walton’s sentence. He was ordered to serve two years of Mandatory Supervised Release following his prison sentence. He was also fined $3,410. Two previous felonies and a misdemeanor were dismissed as part of the sentencing.

Walton was arrested in March 2015 and was found guilty in a jury trial in January. A request by attorney Michael Drake for a new trial was denied last month. Drake directed the court to file a notice of appeal on Tuesday.
