Jacksonville High School is welcoming alumni and the rest of the community to join in this weekend’s homecoming festivities.

JHS Principal Mike McGiles says school spirit is high this year, as homecoming activities get started with tonight’s pep rally at 7 o’clock.

“We’ll have the dance Saturday night at MacMurray Dining Hall. We’ll have the pep assembly Thursday night at 7 o’clock where we’ll crown the King and Queen. It’s been pretty exciting, the theme this year is “Go For the Gold,” it’s an Olympic theme and the kids have taken off and run with that and decorated the school really nice. School spirit is running high,” says McGiles.

Homecoming continues on Friday night with the parade at 4 pm, followed by a home football game against Lincoln.

Parking for the game is limited again this week due to recent renovations at nearby Lincoln Elementary. However, McGiles says the school has made necessary accommodations.

“The homecoming parade will be 4 o’clock. We are running the shuttle again this week, so people are able to park here at the high school and take the shuttle over to the field. They’ll pick you up over at the north gate and bring them back any time they want to come back during the game,” McGiles explains.

This year’s homecoming is themed “Go For the Gold” after this summer’s Rio Olympics.

As for the homecoming dance, it will take place Saturday between 8 and 11 pm at the MacMurray College dining hall.
