The Sangamon County Fair is set to take over the Village of New Berlin starting Wednesday.
Fair President Steve Walter talked about the busy fair schedule on WLDS’ “What’s On Your Mind?” Friday. Walter says the fair provides a great source of entertainment, livestock and tasty food for all ages.
“The carnival starts up at 11 and there is something going on all day at the fairgrounds. One price to get in the gate. Wednesday through Sunday, if you are 11-64 years old it is $20. You can stick around and go to the grandstand. Senior citizens are $10 all week long. Kids 5-10 are $10 to ride every ride we have. Under five years old is free. It is a great value for a family to come out here,” says Walter.
The Grandstand Lineup features Broseph E. Lee with X-Krush on Wednesday, Parmalee and Granger Smith on Thursday, Frankie Ballard with Clare Dunn and Logan Mize on Friday and Jerrod Niemann with Cam and Lick Creek Band on Saturday.
Walter says the mud problem in the carnival area has been improved and plenty of shaded areas to stay cool and drink water are available.
Other fair highlights include the Queen Pageant on Wednesday, Kids Day on Thursday and Friday, the Talent Show on Saturday and the Demolition Derby on Sunday.
Walter explains why Illinoisans flock to the Sangamon County Fair year after year.
“It’s a community thing and family oriented. People realize they can come here with their families for a comfortable environment.. People enjoy it and that is why they come. I want them to have a good time,” says Walter.
Walter says the Sangamon County Fair received “zero state funding” due to the current budget impasse. Walter says the fair will take money from different fair accounts to make ends meet.
