Jacksonville’s most beloved pups now have a new place to play.
Around one hundred people came out for Saturday’s “leash cutting” ceremony, which marked the official opening of the new PetSafe dog park.
On hand was Mayor Andy Ezard with “Smokey,” the Jacksonville Fire Department’s dog. Ezard says the park will be a popular destination for dog lovers throughout the community.
“It’s just another example of the community rallying to get that prize last year of the hundred-thousand dollars to do this dog park. Just so many thanks to the volunteers and the committee that made this happen, to the aldermen that believed in this and to the community. I couldn’t be more thrilled about this park,” says Ezard.
Alderman Marcy Patterson added that “this project could not have happened without the support of Adam Fletcher and the Parks and Lakes staff. They worked tirelessly to get the property ready to meet the timeline set for completion.”
The new dog park is located on Vandalia just east of the Pony Colt baseball diamonds.
