Add Jacksonville’s RadioShack to the list of nationwide closings for the chain of electronics stores.
While a specific date of closure has yet to be confirmed, according to the Jacksonville Journal Courier, the local RadioShack on West Morton Avenue made customers aware of the closure yesterday through a sign posted outside the store.
The closure comes just weeks after RadioShack’s parent company General Wireless Operations filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, marking the second time the company has done so in a little more than two years.
RadioShack announced on March 8th that the store chain planned to close 187 locations in March, close to 12 percent of RadioShack’s 1,500 store locations. The company expects more than 1,800 of its nearly 6,000 employees will be affected by the closures.
As for the Jacksonville location, an exact date for its closure has not yet been confirmed, and the question of whether or not it will be replaced is also undetermined at this time, according to the Journal Courier.
