Local unemployment data won’t be available for at least a couple weeks.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security would typically release the latest job statistics today, but IDES spokesperson Ron Payne says it’s delayed because of the partial federal government shutdown.
“It affected data collection at the federal and state levels,” says Payne. “The press release that was scheduled for today for the metro areas and the counties will not be coming out and we do not, at this point, have a new schedule as to when that’s going to be.”
The federal jobs report was just released Tuesday – a delay of 18 days because of the government shutdown. The report showed the nation’s unemployment level dropped to a five-year low of 7.2 percent in September.
