Jacksonville’s colleges are getting into the spirit of the holidays next weekend.

Illinois College’s Department of Music will present its annual “Christmas on the Hilltop” concert next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Rammelkamp Chapel.

This year’s theme, “Wondrous Mystery,” features director Abby Musgrove presiding over choir sections, members of the school’s wind ensemble and others. Over 80 musicians will participate in a variety of musical styles.

Next Sunday, MacMurray College holds its annual Christmas celebration with the “Lessons and Carols” program and Advent worship services. That will start at 5 p.m. at the Annie Merner Chapel.

The Mac choir will be led by Director of Music Laurie Lewis and accompanied by college organist Terri Benz. College Chaplain Jean Hembrough will officiate and sing a duet of “O Holy Night” with Lewis.

The choir will sing in Russian a movement from Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil, and freshman Rose Rubin will perform a violin solo of “The First Noel”

Admission is free and open to the public for both events.
