A MacMurray College junior will be working at the U.S. Department of Transportation this summer for an internship in Washington, D.C.

Martin Lara will work with the Office of the Chief Financial Officer learning about the DOT’s budget. The department offers competitive, summer internships throughout the country.

Lara’s older brother Matthew had a DOT internship in southern Illinois a few years ago when he was in law school at SIU-Carbondale, according to a press release. Martin found out about the opportunity through his brother’s experience.

Lara is from Chicago. He’s double-majoring in accounting and business administration and will receive room and board, possibly at Georgetown University, as part of the internships, plus a stipend of $4,000.

The internship runs from June 7th to August 15th, an important time of the year for the Department of Transportation’s budget process.

Congress is scheduled to complete its appropriations a few weeks after Lara arrives, and the reconciliation process is set to be complete before the August Congressional break.
