A five-vehicle accident sent multiple people to the hospital with what Illinois State Police say are minor injuries yesterday afternoon.

It happened at around 1:15 p.m. on U.S. Route 67, just south of State Route 103.

A GMC truck driven by 55-year-old Terry Miller of Virginia was driving southbound on the Beardstown bridge approach, did not see traffic stopped for construction, and rear ended an SUV in front of him, which caused a chain reaction totaling five cars, according to police reports.

One passenger, 42-year-old Jackie Robinson of Rushville, and two passengers, a 12-year-old and 8-year-old boy, both from Mount Sterling, were transported to Culbertson Hospital in Rushville.

Miller was cited for failure to reduce speed.
