State Senator Sam McCann toured the Jacksonville Correctional Center yesterday along with facility staff and Illinois Department of Corrections Director S.A. Godinez.
The tour represents the continuation of a conversation that began during the Senate confirmation hearing of Director Godinez, according to a press release.
McCann had received many comments of concern from constituents regarding the IDOC. McCann and Godinez agreed to tour facilities to see how they, and the entire department, function.
McCann met with correctional officers, volunteers, and other staff in the facility as well as inmates working in job training programs.
McCann previously toured the Greene County and Pittsfield facilities, which are part of the Jacksonville Correctional System. He plans to continue to dour additional IDOC facilities to further study the state’s correctional operations.
