Open enrollment for the Medicare Program is underway for West Central Illinoisans.

Department of Aging Spokeswoman Kimberly Parker says now is a good time for people to review their Medicare plans.

“The Senior Health Insurance Program – or SHIP – provides free counseling to Medicare beneficiaries and can explain the different options for drug, health, supplemental plans that are available to help seniors and people with disabilities,” says Parker

Parker says this enrollment period is not for uninsured people looking to get healthcare coverage through the Affordable Care Act.

“This is for Medicare beneficiaries, seniors and people with disabilities and they’re looking over their healthcare options for Medicare,” says Parker.

Enrollment runs through December 7th. The Department of Aging is offering free counseling to help people get signed up.
