Midwest Youth Services announces service cutbacks

Jacksonville non-profit group Midwest Youth Services is the latest to announce service cuts because of the state budget impasse.

Midwest Youth Services works with about 100 children per year in danger of running away from home or who feel unwanted by their parents.

Executive Director Susan Wilson tells our reporting partners at WICS ABC Newschannel 20 that the program’s budget is about $270,000. About a third of the budget comes from the state, and MYS hasn’t received the money in nearly a year.

“So going from having four people in the office to five… If one person goes on vacation and somebody else calls in sick, we’re scrambling to meet the needs,” says Susan Wilson, the agency’s executive director.

The legislative session ends tomorrow.
