Last month’s mobile food pantry was a big hit, so the Central Illinois Foodbank is offering another free event on Wednesday.

Central Illinois Foodbank Public Relations Manager Krista Lisser says the food drive on September 29th, made possible by the Morgan County Crop Walk, was “one of the most successful mobile pantry events in Morgan County.”

“We served 270 families, which equated to 942 individuals in Morgan County who came through that pantry. Normally we are around the 150 families served, maybe cracking 200 every now and then. Having 270 families served is quite an accomplishment.”

Lisser says cars were “lined up around the block” all evening, showing there continues to be a need for food pantry services in Morgan County.

“It is going to be a traditional mobile, so bring a laundry basket or wagon that you can bring the food in. We will have 60 percent fresh produce. By going through the grocery store you how expensive it is to purchase produce. They will have access to apples, pears, potatoes, onion, sweet potatoes and spaghetti squash and mac and cheese.”

The event on Wednesday takes place at Jacksonville Savings Bank at 1211 West Morton.

The food drive runs from 4 until the food is gone.
