A fundraiser in Jacksonville is hoping to raise community awareness on child abuse and neglect.

The Morgan County Children’s Advocacy Center is hosting its first “Koins for Kids” event on Saturday at Midland Farm & Home.

Executive Assistant Diane Pieper says representatives from the Advocacy Center will be accepting donations to assist with day-to-day operating costs.

“It will go towards supplies and equipment needs for us to keep the doors open. We have held an event in Macomb the past couple years and raised over $800 this year and $900 last year. We also hold an event in Quincy that raises a little more,” says Pieper.

Pieper describes the role the Morgan County Children’s Advocacy Center plays in abuse cases.

“We work with a team of professionals, such as law enforcement, DCFS and the State’s Attorney’s Office, to schedule interviews of alleged victims of sexual abuse or severe physical abuse. We work with the child victims and the families as the case is being investigated. We also provide short term counseling. We tend to work with children pre-K through first grade,” says Pieper.

The Advocacy Network for Children supports nine counties in West Central Illinois. The event runs from 10-4 p.m.
