Murrayville-Woodson’s grade school is celebrating a milestone on Saturday as part of a bigger celebration for Jacksonville School District 117.

This year marks the Jacksonville school district’s 150th anniversary, and it’s also 100 years for Murrayville-Woodson Elementary School. Principal Emily English says the school is celebrating the occasion on Saturday with several events.

“During the party there will be many displays of the pictures and memorabilia we’ve been able to collect. We have student tours that are being led in our building by some of our sixth grade students that will go through the history of our building and some of the changes that we’ve had. We are opening up a time capsule that was buried in 2000 and we will be looking at the contents of that…as well as putting in some things and reburying that for future generations.”

English says the celebration isn’t just for Murrayville-Woodson alums. It is open to the community.

The 100th year celebration is Saturday from 2-5p.m. in the school gymnasium.
