No Jacksonville paper today

Newspaper readers in Jacksonville had one less option this morning.

In what is believed to be a first, the Jacksonville Journal-Courier did not publish today because of the Labor Day holiday.

Newspaper officials stated on Facebook that there is no plan to discontinue future Monday editions. The Alton Telegraph, which is also printed at the Journal-Courier offices, was not published today either.

Journal-Courier officials say they are publishing stories online today. The newspaper bills itself as the “oldest continuously published newspaper” in Illinois.
