A Scott County man is avoiding more serious charges after an alleged slashing incident at Lake Jacksonville Saturday night.
Police say 32-year-old Eric Mefford of Winchester was at Point 4 Saturday night with a group of people when the incident happened at around 10:30.
Reports indicate Mefford and the victim had been drinking together; Mefford was intoxicated, and the two apparently got into an argument when the slashing incident occurred.
Police called paramedics, but the victim reportedly refused treatment. Police say he did not want to press charges.
Mefford remains in custody on the resisting a peace officer offense.
