Prairie Land Heritage Museum to hold auction to restore campground electricity

It’s chilly now but the warm temperatures and the sunny days of summer is fast approaching, and having fun outdoors goes hand and hand with warmer weather.

This Saturday, the Prairie Land Heritage Museum is hosting a public consignment auction to help raise money for its camp ground. All proceeds will go towards completing the upgrades to the electricity at the campground.

Sale Chairman Hank Pool recently joined our WLDS “What’s on your mind” and spoke about this weekend’s auction.

“A lot of it will go towards general fund, some of the stuff donated to us will go towards upgrading the campground. Campers can’t run their air conditioner so we are trying to get that squared away. Some of the other goals is to keep the place going, pay the light bills and keep the up keep on the campgrounds which is extremely high.” said Pool.

Pool explains how important it is to have the upgrades to the campground.

“The electricity at the campground, number one it’s been extremely hot the last couple of years and a lot of the campers that come to the campground would like to stay all three days. The power has been so low over there that people can’t want to run their air conditioner. So they just stay one day and then they’re gone. What we want to do is get the power up so people can come in and stay all three days and then they are comfortable.” Pool said.

Those who are going to the consignment auction, you can expect items from the farm, all the way to antiques. Pool says there isn’t a specific goal but he’s expecting to have a large crowd this weekend.

“There’s going to be a major auction, there’s a lot of things out here. It starts at 9:30, there will be four auctioneer rings running, they maybe running all day long to get all things sold.  Last year the four auction rings went all day long, all day long and we got out of here at around 5 o’clock. So there isn’t any entertainment, it’s a strictly a sale and all kinds of food to eat.” said Pool.

The consignment auction is this Saturday at the Prairie Land Heritage Museum, located at 1005 West Michigan Avenue. Doors open for breakfast at 7am, the auction later in the morning at 9. If you would like to look at the list of the items being auctioned, head to www.prairielandheritage.com
