For the first time in its program history, there is not a waiting list for a District 117 pre-kindergarten program.

Jacksonville’s school district has openings available in the Preschool for All portion of the Early Years Program, according Director of Human Resources and Public Relations Dana Kinley. She says there are currently 180 students enrolled, and that there are 60 spots available.

The openings come as the program, in existence since the 1980s, made changes to its class schedule this year. There are now morning and afternoon sessions. Kinley says the move was made after program coordinator Carey Weber was concerned the pre-k course wasn’t meeting student needs.

Preschool for All is for children who are at risk of not being successful at the grade school level. It’s for children ages three to five.

Kinley says even though it’s already started for this year, enrollment will continue through the year. To find out more information, call 243-2876.
