A preliminary hearing for a local man accused of home invasion and aggravated domestic battery was continued in court today.

Nineteen year old Chanse Stewart, of Woodson, appeared in Morgan County court this morning for a preliminary hearing on allegations of home invasion, theft, criminal damage to property and aggravated domestic battery. The alleged charges facing Stewart stem from an alleged incident that occurred on the evening of January 22nd.

According to reports from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Stewart was arrested after a neighbor notified authorities of a domestic altercation taking place in Woodson on January 22nd. Authorities say that when officers arrived, they discovered the victim, believed to be Stewart’s former girlfriend, with injuries to her face and body.

Stewart appeared in Morgan County court this morning for a scheduled preliminary hearing. Public Defender Anne Clough was present with Stewart, however she informed the court that Stewart has hired private council and requested that the matter be continued for two weeks.

Judge Chris Reif granted the continuance and set Stewart’s next court date for Tuesday, February 13th at 9 a.m.
