Robbie McEvers Tournament back at Links Golf Course

The 37th annual Robbie McEvers Memorial Golf Tournament is set to take over the Links Golf Course for the next two days.

Kurt Heller is one of several Kiwanians tasked with running the tournament and says 180 participants, ranging from eight to 18 years old, are set to tee off this year.

“We get kids from St. Louis, Chicago, Quincy, Springfield, Jacksonville, Decatur and Champaign. It is a lot of fun,” says Heller.

Heller hopes the participants enjoy their time on the course and remember the life of Robbie McEvers.

“Ya he had leukemia and died when he was nine years old in 1979. He loved to play golf, so friends of his family put this tournament together and ran it for 20 years. I didn’t want to see this go by the wayside, so I volunteered Kiwanis to take it over. We have done that for the past 17 years and we are happy to do it,” says Heller.
