Second update: Route 267 closed due to fatal accident, no names released yet

Illinois Route 267 in Greene County has been re-opened at the Palmyra turnoff after a fatal auto accident last night.

According to the Illinois State Police, the two-vehicle wreck happened on the highway at Palmyra Road at around 5 p.m. last night.

Police say the first car, a 2004 Ford, was traveling southbound, while the second, a 2014 Hyundai, was headed north. Reports indicate the first drive may have crossed the center line and crashed into the second.

According to reports, the driver of the first vehicle was airlifted to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, while the second was transported to Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, where he died.

ISP crews are still investigating the crash.

The highway was closed until around 12:30 this morning, according to state police.

The names of the people involved still have not yet been released.
