The Illinois State Police say the two-vehicle wreck happened shortly before 3:30 this afternoon.

A 2000 Nissan Altima being driven by an unidentified person was headed north on Route 67 about three-quarters of a mile south of Beardstown. A 2015 Western Star semi-truck being driven by 43-year-old Sean Bolton of Waverly was headed southbound.

Police say the Altima left the roadway to the right into loose gravel, overcorrected, re-entered the roadway and struck the trailer of the tractor-trailer. The driver of the Altima was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck was carrying an empty anhydrous ammonia tank, according to police reports.

The driver’s passengers, 22-year-old Jershondra Roberson of Justice and an unidentified 35-year-old woman, were airlifted to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, listed in critical condition. Bolton was transported to Culbertson Hospital in Rushville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say charges are pending an investigation.
