A portion of Jacksonville’s busiest street will be closed for approximately six hours starting tomorrow evening.

According to a news release from the Illinois Department of Transportation, the portion of East Morton Avenue between Hardin Avenue and Blesse Lane will be closed tomorrow starting at 7 p.m. and will re-open at approximately six hours later at around 1 a.m. Thursday.

IDOT officials say the closure is necessary to conduct additional repairs to the Kansas City Southern Railroad bridge.

According to IDOT, there will be a marked detour in place for drivers traveling near the repair zone.

IDOT also urges drivers to pay special attention to signs in and around the work zone, to obey the posted speed limits, and be on high alert for work crews and their equipment.
