Jacksonville area veterans are encouraged to gather at the Vietnam War Memorial in Nichols Park today.

AMVETS Post 100 Commander Jim Duncan says a Veterans Day ceremony is planned at the memorial this morning at 11:00. Statewide Chaplin for the AMVETS Jim Johnson will be the keynote speaker.

All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Food will be provided after the ceremony at the AMVETS building at 210 East Court. If the weather turns ugly, the ceremony will also take place at the AMVETS building.

In Roodhouse, there will be a Veterans Day ceremony in the city’s square conducted by the Roodhouse American Legion Post 373.

In White Hall, the White Hall American Legion and VFW Post is sponsoring a ceremony at Whiteside Park at 11:00.

In Chapin, there’s a Soup and Sandwich Supper for veterans at 5:00 this evening at American Legion Post 878 at the corner of Superior and Poplar.

And in Murrayville, there is an Oyster Soup supper for veterans at 6:00 this evening at American Legion and Auxiliary Post 311 at 101 Main. Attendees are asked to bring a dessert and a bingo prize.
