A quick hitting burst of snow creating travel problems in West Central Illinois this morning.
The snow started coming down at about 6:00 and dropped nearly 3 inches of the white stuff in Jacksonville. City and village police assisted six motorists who slid off the road or got stuck. County deputies assisted eight motorists.
State Police handled a snow plow-versus-vehicle accident on Interstate 72 in Scott County. Troopers say 25-year-old Andrew Snow of Olathe, Kansas was traveling westbound near the Bluffs exit when his vehicle rear-ended the snow plow driven by 47-year-old Scotty Dean Settles-Ballard of Jacksonville.
Snow and his passenger, 26-year-old Yingtian Jiang of Champaign, were taken to Passavant Area Hospital for minor injuries. Settles-Ballard was not injured.
Snow was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Precipitation has tapered off across most of the region although light snow is likely across the northern half of the listening area through the afternoon.
Roads are still snow packed in many locations and motorists are urged to use caution traveling this afternoon and evening.
